About the VU-Meter Kit
What started as an ambitious case modding project in 2003, eventually grew in popularity among fellow case modders. While this VU-Meter gained exposure, more people became interested in this little piece of electronic eye candy. As a result, I designed a VU-Meter kit that could be easily installed in a PC, with a flexible light system which could be mounted in almost any configuration on a case.
Some key points of the kit:
- Supports stereo sound, board-mount audio jack included
- Adjustable audio sensitivity for each channel
- 10 LEDs per channel
- LEDs soldered on the ends of long ribbon cables, which easily plug into the board. Having the lights on these cables allows you to mount them on the front of your case in virtually any configuration, and puts some distance between the lights and the circuit board
- Plugs directly into your PC Power Supply with the included molex plug
- Circuit board comes with extra contacts so you can attach a toggle switch and power indicator LED, which you can then mount in your faceplate with your other toggles/LEDs
- Circuit boards manufactured with silkscreen layer, solder mask, and high quality, plated-through holes and pads, making soldering much easier.
- Extensive online documentation of the assembly process complete with photographs of each step.
- Assembles on to a compact, 3.15" by 2" board
